Save the date! Red Ribbon Week is quickly approaching on October 23-31, 2019! Join GUIDE as we celebrate with our brand new campaign, The Power of One!
This year for Red Ribbon Week, GUIDE wants our community members to discover The Power of One. This year’s theme alludes to the power of “one” in many ways – one choice, one goal, one future. We can change the entire course of our lives by just one decision, one action.
We hope that our community members will gain an understanding of the significance and power they have to make healthy decisions and be a positive influence in their communities. As such, for Red Ribbon Week, we are asking everyone to complete the sentence “My ONE reason for being drug free is…”
A few good examples are the following:
- …so I can be a good role model for my siblings.
- …I want to focus on my grades and get a college scholarship.
- …I want to stay healthy so I can play basketball.
By determining one reason for being drug free, we are hoping this serves as a reminder of the prevention power we have in our own lives and the influence we can have in our communities.
We have a blank poster template available for download that allows anyone to participate in the campaign! After writing down their reason, participants can then share their message with the world by taking a photo with their poster and posting it to social media using #ThePowerOfOne and #RedRibbonWeek. Tag @guidegti so we can share your successes, and follow us on social media to see our posts related to The Power of One during Red Ribbon Week.
Now is the time to begin planning your Youth Action Team’s or other youth-serving group’s Red Ribbon Week project! Looking for more resources? Here is a great list of prevention project ideas: Red Ribbon Week Roundup: Project Ideas to Celebrate Being Drug Free.

Learn more about the National Red Ribbon Week Campaign:
According to the National Family Partnership, the sponsor of the National Red Ribbon Campaign, “the Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation, reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week… It is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs… The Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.”
“Send a Message. Stay Drug Free. This year’s theme of the National Red Ribbon Campaign is a call to action to speak out in support of healthy choices. The theme is also a reminder that by staying drug free, you are sending a message to yourself and others about how much you value yourself, your overall health, your community and your future.”
