Magneto’s Rage
If you are looking for an exciting and creative team building activity to do with a group to work on teamwork, building leadership skills and thinking outside the box, this is the perfect exercise. With very few materials needed, this activity could be easily integrated into any youth meeting, afterschool program or even staff meeting!
Time Needed: 25 minutes
Group Size: Any!
Materials: Several magazines and newspapers, tape, string and any other random objects you want to incorporate
Description & Directions: Magneto is a mutant with the power to manipulate the Earth’s electromagnetic fields to achieve a wide range of effects. He understand that your team has the potential to rise up against him – ultimately causing his demise. In his rage, he decides to come after your group. You have 20 minutes to build a force field shelter out of the supplies provided that is big enough to get all of your team members inside.
Make sure to give participants time checks so that they know how much time is left – 15, 10, 5 and 2 minutes. If you find that your team is moving quickly, add some additional challenges such as removing the ability to speak, use one’s hands, etc.
Debrief Questions:
- What happened during this activity?
- Did you have a plan for building the structure? If yes, what was it?
- Did you use all of the resources provided? Why did you choose certain resources over others?
- Did anyone emerge as the natural leader? If so, what were some of their leadership characteristics?
