Youth & Family Advisory Board (YFAB) Application
We are pleased to announce that applications are available to join GUIDE’s Youth & Family Advisory Board (YFAB) for the 2024-2025 year! Please review the following information for more details.
GUIDE’s Youth & Family Advisory Board (YFAB), is composed of individuals from all over the state of Georgia. The members are categorized into three different subgroups, youth (ages 15-17), young adults (ages 18-23), and parents/guardians of those in these age ranges. YFAB members are trained through a combination of virtual and in-person events on related and relevant topics including, but not limited to, advocacy, substance use trends, the Strategic Prevention Framework, leadership, communication, teamwork, public speaking and facilitation.
Important Dates and Requirements

Youth (Ages 15-17)
Applications Due: Friday, July 12, 2024
YFAB Interviews: Virtual group interviews will take place on May 21 and July 16, 2024. All YFAB members will be selected by Friday, July 19, 2024.
YFAB Virtual Induction Ceremony: Wednesday, August 7, 2024
Georgia Teen Institute (GTI): Attendance is required for Youth YFAB members. GTI takes place June 2025.
In order to be eligible, you must:
- Be a youth between the ages of 15-17;
- Be in high school and be willing to be an active member of the community (i.e., by providing feedback about programming related to local community conditions);
- Attend at least 75% of online, scheduled meetings (dates/times determined once board members are selected);
- Be available to attend Georgia Teen Institute in June 2025; and
- Have reliable access to the internet and a device such as a laptop/computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.
Young Adult (Ages 18-23)
Applications Due: Friday, July 12, 2024
YFAB Interviews: Virtual group interviews will take place on May 21 and July 16, 2024. All YFAB members will be selected by Friday, July 19, 2024.
YFAB Virtual Induction Ceremony: Wednesday, August 7, 2024
Georgia Teen Institute (GTI): Attendance is required for an in-person GTI Leadership Summit. The event will be held on August 17, 2024, in Duluth, GA. Those selected for YFAB may also have the opportunity to apply for a Young Adult Staff position for GTI 2025, which is taking place June 2025.
In order to be eligible, you must:
- Be between the ages of 18-23;
- Be willing to complete a background check;
- Be willing to be an active member of the community (i.e., by providing feedback about programming related to local community conditions);
- Attend at least 75% of online, scheduled meetings (dates/times determined once board members are selected);
- Participate in at least one in-person GTI Leadership Summit; and
- Have reliable access to the internet and a device such as a laptop/computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.
Parent/Guardian
Applications Due: Friday, July 12, 2024
YFAB Interviews: Virtual interviews will take place between May and July 2024. Exact dates and times will be determined on an individual basis with each applicant. All YFAB members will be selected by Friday, July 19, 2024.
YFAB Virtual Induction Ceremony: Wednesday, August 7, 2024
Georgia Teen Institute (GTI): Attendance is required for Parent/Guardian YFAB members. GTI takes place June 2025.
In order to be eligible, you must:
- Be a parent of a 15-23 year old;
- Be willing to complete a background check;
- Be willing to be an active member of the community (i.e., by providing feedback about programming related to local community conditions);
- Attend at least 75% of online, scheduled meetings (dates/times determined once board members are selected);
- Be available to attend Georgia Teen Institute in June 2025; and
- Have reliable access to the internet and a device such as a laptop/computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.
Compensation
To ensure equity among membership and so that YFAB members can treat this engagement with the seriousness and commitment of a part-time job, YFAB members will earn stipends for participation in all meetings, events and sessions and have travel covered when participating in YFAB related events. Compensation will vary depending on the type of event ranging from $25-$300 per event.
